VLC who? This is way better looking

★★★★★ 5.0verified-purchase·Review by Tara N.·2026-07-05

I've been a VLC user for like a decade but honestly the interface is ugly and hasnt changed since 2005. Doda Media Player looks modern, the dark theme with auto-hiding controls is gorgeous. The 16 audio visualizers are incredible — the fire and bubble modes are my favorites. YouTube streaming works perfectly too, just paste a link and it plays ad-free. The audio visualizers synced to music from YouTube is such a cool experience. PiP mode is great for multitasking.

YouTube streaming is a killer feature

★★★★½ 4.7verified-purchase·Review by James H.·2026-06-12

The YouTube streaming alone is worth the download. Paste any YouTube URL and it plays instantly with no ads, no tracking, no cookies. You can even download as MP4 or MP3. Ive basically stopped using the YouTube website entirely. The 10-band equalizer is solid too — the rock and dance presets actually sound good on my headphones. Playback speed control from 0.25x to 2.0x is great for lectures. For a v0.1.0 release this is amazing.

Insightful

Beautiful but missing some features

★★★★★ 5.0verified-purchase·Review by Yuki T.·2026-05-25

Doda Media Player is the prettiest media player I've used. The QML interface is smooth and responsive. The visualizers are beautiful — the orbitting frequency particles one is hypnotic. Subtitle support works well with SRT and ASS. My main issue is its still early in development (v0.1.0) so some features are missing. No Chromecast support, no playlist export other than M3U, and it crashed once on a 4K HDR file. But for regular 1080p content its rock solid. The devs are pushing updates frequently so im optimistic.

Great for music lovers

★★★☆☆ 3.4verified-purchase·Review by Fatima A.·2026-04-30

The audio visualizers and equalizer make this a great music listening experience. I love the album art display when playing music — it extracts embedded art automatically and shows it centered with a nice dark gradient. The visualizers are properly synced to the music (real FFT spectrum analysis). The smart playlist with shuffle and repeat works well. Would give 5 stars if it had gapless playback and better library management (it relies on file system browsing rather than a proper media library).

Keyboard shortcuts are fantastic

★★★★★ 5.0·Review by Alex B.·2026-03-28

Every action has a keyboard shortcut. Space for play/pause, arrows for seeking, F for fullscreen, V/H for visualizer cycling, E for equalizer, Z for speed control, Y for subtitles — I barely touch the mouse. The resume playback feature is also great, it saves your position every 10 seconds so you can pick up where you left off. Window position and size are restored too. The media info panel (press I) shows all the codec details. Built with Python and Qt which is a nice tech stack.

Promising but not quite VLC replacement yet

★★★★★ 5.0verified-purchase·Review by Dan S.·2026-02-14

I want to love Doda Media Player and the foundation is really solid. The UI is beautiful, visualizers are fun, YouTube streaming is great. But its still early days. It struggles with some 4K content on my machine, the subtitle sync went off on one file, and I miss some advanced VLC features like streaming protocols and conversion tools. That said the devs are activly working on it and for everyday video watching its already very usable. I'll probably switch full time once they hit v1.0.
